A magnitude 7 earthquake has struck Solomon Islands, USGS reports.
The quake, which struck at 3.03pm Tuesday NZT, was centred 16 kilometres southwest of Malango at a depth of 15km, the agency said.
There were no immediate reports of widespread damage or injuries.
Hazardous tsunami waves from the earthquake were possible within 300km of the epicentre along the coasts of Solomon Islands, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre advised.
Waves of up to 1 metre above tide levels could occur for Solomon Islands, the centre said, and smaller waves for the coasts of Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
The quake comes a day after a 5.6-magnitude tremor that killed at least 162 people and injured hundreds on Indonesia’s main island of Java.
